Activities & Golf
It is nice to tour the city with a horse drawn carriage – from 30 minutes on, up to 4 adults per carriage; there are many tours to choose from.
If you like walking, you’ll be pleased to know that there are many different marked walking paths around Sintra, thematically arranged(quintas, castles…) – and we can lend you a thermal back-pack to take along if you need it. The many water fountains around the town and the mountain have cold, clean spring water readily available on your way.
And then there are the beaches – about 8 kms away: Praia Grande, Praia das Maçãs, Adraga, Magoito,… some are a bit rough for swimming but great for surfing!Praia Grande is one of the world championship body board beaches. Even if you don’t care for swimming, the Colares region is worth visiting with the newly restored antique trams, which go from Sintra to Praia das Maçãs.
The Market of S. Pedro is another interesting place. It is open every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. And on the other days, the antique shops make a visit to S.Pedro worthwhile.

Golf is another great attraction in this area. Casa do Valle is within 4 kms of Beloura and6 kms of Penha Longa Golf courses. Estoril Clube de Campo is 10 kms away, and Quinta da Marinha (Oitavos Golfe and Clube de Campo), Lisbon Sports Club and Belas about 15 kms away. Arthur Hills, Robert Trent Jones and Rocky More are some of the architects of these greens. You can get a 5 day pass to try most or all of them out, or just stick to the one of your choice. The green fees range from 10 to 90 euros during the weekdays and 20 to 120 euros during the weekends for 18 holes, depending on the club and course.
